Does it occur to anyone what the outcome of this situation might have been if someone in the store had had a gun? If I were carrying a gun and was in a situation like that, those “burglars” would both be dead.
Or what if one of the employees had a heart attack and died? As it was, they scared one woman so badly she quit her job and now has anxiety attacks.
Somebody needs to get sued. This is not cool. It makes our police look like callous assholes and the store’s corporate owners look like idiots. I can’t believe the police even agreed to do it.
UPDATE 10/21/04: Well, somebody’s getting sued. The former store manager who was traumatized by this incident is suing the store and the City of Schuyler.

Yes I agree, the police system should be abolished as soon as possible. I’ve discovered, most of the time people are nice to cops, they’re afraid. Ironically, these are the same people who are devote followers of Christ, (religions based on fear) but this isn’t a religious discussion. I’ve been abused by Police Officers, mostly in San Francisco. And not for breaking the law either. And I’m not speaking out of anger or spite. I was simply speaking. A friend of mine was being harassed by people on the street in front of our dorm building. Our “Security Guard” called the police. When they came, they ignored the people who were attacking my friend (they knew eachother, I’ve seen the police hanging out with them often), then they proceeded to badger and abuse my friend. I stood up and asked them why they were doing that, the officer approached me, nose to nose, and began to scream at me. I asked, “we called you because this guy was being hit and pushed by that guy over there, I thought you were here to serve and protect”. His response was “That’s Los Angeles police, we don’t do that”. As we were arguing, his partner came from behind me and grabbed my arm, I was unaware of who it was, so I flinched, he grabbed me again and pulled on my arm, throwing me into a wall, the cop I was arguing with ran behind me and twisted my arm behind my back. As if that wasn’t enough effort to detain me (I was not fighting a bit, I know better than that, they have sticks and guns) The cop I was arguing with held my right hand to the left side of my neck (across the back) and pulled me around a bit, pushing and pulling as if he was faking the entire thing.
Besides that there were numerous bogus tickets and threats. There were also a few that I deserved. But the amount of negative police encounters overweigh the amount of positive ones by far. It proves that cops took the job to be in power and to hold an authoritative position. If you question or deny that authority, the results can be often painful and time consuming. I suppose it’s a good thing I inherited my grandmothers pale Italian skin and not my grandfathers brown African skin.
Otherwise who knows what could have happened.

I hate cops. a Friend of mine and me decided to take a walk @ like 12 ish and met up with some friends…and when cars would come we’d hide..and someone called the cops and the cops came and we hid behind a bush and then just walked right out infront of them and the fucking cop made us sit in the back of his car for like 1/2 hour…and take us home…and he made it seem like we were doing drugs or drinking and we werent we were just going for a walk. This cop was a fucking asshole. As soon as these people become cops it goes straight to there head thinking they can be assholes to people who arnt disrespecting them. Give respect to Get it. So all this talk about how cops are “just doing there job”, goes so much deeper than anyone can imagine. The mentality and mind set that it takes to be a cop is easy to define. Do some cops want to help people, YES, but the majority just have ego issues and power complexes. I have shown respect to them and been treated well, and I have also led them on a 22 mile high-speed chase!
Why? Because I have a problem with our society in general. It goes to the root of our country being “free”, which is false. We are controlled in every aspect. The police are the foot soldiers of our government and first line of defense, and feed the coffers of every county in the U.S.

There is a reason people hate cops. They’re an element of the executive branch that is completely unchecked for political reasons. Legislature wont limit their powers because it is considered “political suicide” and the judicial branch rarely throws cases out because convictions benefit them as well. Take simple traffic ticketing. You get a bullshit ticket, you contest it, if the cop shows up, and its your word against his, you dont stand a fucking chance.
The problem is you give a bunch of basically uneducated ego-trippers a loaded pistol, authority to arrest, beat, and kill.. and dont have any checks on them, you’re going to have a huge problem. I don’t get why people are so endeared to their police, maybe the police just like fucking with me personally. They’ve got a War on Drugs, legitimacy to shoot and kill civilians, but the civilians dont have a right to defend themselves?
Someones got to take some action, there has to be some organization out there that is trying to push for legislation to curb cops.. a citizens group willing to fight back in the “war”.

Why do people hate cops? My hate is deep rooted. I was raped by a “Peace Officer” when I was 13. Two days later my younger brother was arrested for burglary. The charges were dismissed when they realized he was fair skinned & had a slight build not olive & heavy. Message received. You seem to imply that there is a connection between your brother’s arrest and the fact that you were raped, although you don’t say whether or not you reported the rape (and that the arrest of your brother was retaliation of some kind).

i am from australia and live in the small island at the bottom of the continent. Those fucking gabacho slime are arseholes to every one. at the moment, tasmania (the small island) has a widespread political view that even harvesting quick growth,legal and renewable trees is wrong. i fucking hate these “save the gay whales” acivists too but let me tell you a few stories of police brutality.
Two elderly couples were arrested at a protest in the styx valley (south of the state). The police gave the excuse that fireworks and weapons were envolved (later proved a falshood but kept under rapps by the local media). anyway the cops outnumbered the activists by about. . . 6-1. The wife of the first couple was killed during the dispersing of the crowd. her husband was later crippled when he was thrown 2 metres into a pine tree by two cops. the second couple were lucky and hid under a rotten log until the violence had passed and were later found when the police scouted the forest floor with policedogs.
The second story is of the cousin of my close friend thomas burr. his cousin jamie suffers from schitsophrenia,type 1 diabetes, now uses a prosthetic leg and was held in a juvenile detention centre called Ashley (west of the state)in 1997-1999. When an uprising happened on november 12 1999, the police were called in to assist the security forces. Jamie hid in a closet on the other side of the detention center, away from the violence. his uncle (toms dad, peter burr) worked as a janitor in the facility and watched as 2 police officers and one security guard (knowing of jamies disease dragged jamie out of the cupboard and beat the living shit out of him. Peter tried to intervine but was also beaten. jamie was found later on spazming in his cell. and peter was found unconcious in the cupboard. peter pressed charges and revieved a payout of $20,000 (american-$12.700(not very much)). jamie still tells everyone that he didn’t know what happened so as not to attract attention(his disease also prompts this behaviour).

Most cops suck because they have nothing better to do but give speeding tickets. Wait, I take that back they do have better things to do like bust drug dealers, catch murderers, etc. But they are too fat and lazy to do anything like that so they just point a radar gun and write a bunch of bs down on a peice of paper and hit you with a hefty fine for driving fast. Last time I checked driving a couple of miles over the speed limit wasnt dangerous or life threatening. And I hate those fuckers that bust kids for drinking a couple of beers. Whats so funny is all the accusations that are being made toward the police are actually the same type of behavior the complainant condems in this forum. Furthermore, all of these people who have these horrible recollectiions of interaction with police forget something: there are two sides to every story and somewhere between the two lies the truth. Most people condem the police simply because they cannot understand the concepts behind the actions. This is not their fault, however. Cops are assholes, plain and simple. Just ask yourself, assuming you’re a normal civilian, if you could sleep at night after interacting with people the way a police officer does. Sure, there may be the 2% who actually have some compassion and room for rational thought in their head, who knows how they ended up in the profession. The other 98% are just programmed robots who lack professionalism. American governments throughout the states have budget problems? Damn straight. Having cops issue more tickets just to pay for their own damn salary isn’t the correct answer. How bout we lay off some of those sheep fuckers and let them perform a useful function in society doing a real job. I’ve had my home broken into, checks forged, and my car stolen. What people should realize is that cops are still just people. An asshole in the civilian life will be an asshole as a cop as well. This is not to say that i like cops though. This position will naturally make you do fucked up shit because of the power involved.
The problem with many cops is that they believe the civilian should show respect even though he himself(the cop) shows none. If the cop would go into a situation showing more courtesy, it would definitely lead to a better outcome.
In my experience, when an officer is asshole from the get-go(being rude, insulting my intelligence, asking questions he already knows the answer to) it leads me to be an asshole back. When an officer is polite, it creates me to be polite as well. If police tried to produce more of these “gentle” situations, it would lead to more respect and a better reputation for cops.
I take this knowledge from many run-ins with the cops and having my father as police officer as well. My advice is: if a cop is being an asshole and you didn’t do anything wrong, give him your two cents and be an asshole back. If you’ve got nothing to lose tell him he’s an ‘asshole’ or to ‘fuck off’, because it is not against the law to curse to a cop. Essentially, don’t let any person actually think they have authority over you, because the truth is, cops are just human beings too, and in gods eyes you are all at the same level.

If we took sumptuary laws off of the books, we would empty the jails by at LEAST 1/3 of their populations. They don’t feel guilty, so they resent being in Jail, and the state of inprisonment confirms them in their hatred of society.
I say you restrict the duties of police to four areas, 1. protecting us from violence, 2. protecting us from robbery, 3, directing traffic,
4, giving aid to persons in distress.
THere is ENOUGH to do in these for areas.

I am not fond of cops for personal reasons, they used to beat my older brother on a weekly basis, I have bad memories of seeing him come home bleeding and bruised because the cops in our area didnt have anything better to do than mess with a kid they suspected had drugs on him but never caught him with anything of the sort. Now I see the various assaults and beatings on television, see cops run red lights and drive as if theyre above the law, park wherever they please and it makes me sick that they believe they have the right to do these things, first and foremost put their hands on other people in an unnecessray and forceful way. And the sad thing is they have loopholes, if they need to justify themselves they can simply say the suspect was “resisting arrest” whether he was or not. It’s pathetic and unfortuantely I feel less safe when police are around rather than safer.

I came across this board by accident and it was a decent discussion except for the sarcastic, pretentious, holier than thou bullshit posted by “Anne Haight” What is her motivation for defending the police so staunchly and universaly? She cant say the exact opposite of what people are saying against the police and be on any superior level. Apparently you have never encountered the police under any circumstances other than where they hand out pencils at the fair. I live in the city of Richmond, Virginia, and let me assure you that the police here WILL NOT “come stop a robbery at a crackhouse.” What they will do in reality is find a snitch to give them some information, go to the crackhouse in the daytime, arrest the one crackhead they find who already got robbed and put him in jail. Stop a man from shooting you? No. You’ll go to jail for possesion and distribution charges and the guy who tried to shoot you will have go away by the time the police get there. Do you actually think the police are out there making sure drug deals are safe and regulated??? What an idiotic perspective. If anyones been programmed into a way of thought about something its you. dk bout you but i live in a mostly black neighborhood in columbus,ohio its pretty rough and you call police when you see some1 getting robbed or beaten they take a friggin hour at least to come over.Their scared to deal with any real threats,shows you what cowards they are.Most of em have a vocabulary of 10 words,friggin bald red faced humpty dumpty bastards,they go to the whiteboy hoods in a heartbeat

I also CAN NOT STAND police. I used to date a girl and her father was a corporal. I used to be at parties with 20 cops at a time and they woudl talk about cases where they arrested so and so for certain crimes and basically make fun of them. They would also just leave the party drunk and drive home. These people that hate all cops because they were raped by them etc, I believe they have a right to hate them ALL. If you get bit by a snake, your gonna hate all snakes in most cases. If you have 5 girlfriends and they all cheat on you, your not going to trust all women in most cases. It is human nature. Ill never trust or like a cop. Ive had personal experience of my own with them that I wont get into.

Anne Height you are truely a fucking morron if you think for one min that having Police officers harass you and brake the very same rules that they are there to enforece is a good thing, have you not read most of these peoples situation dealing with Police, let me say i have read all of them and it seems to me although there are some stupid ignorant fucks on here most of the have good reason to dislike the Police and another thing if there are mostly bad things that are being said about Police than there are good that has to make you think for second and just maybe the people that dislike and down right hate Police officers and any other Law Enforecement that they are truly sincere about there feeling toward Police due to past events. Another thing I don’t think that these people on here got up one day for no apparent reason at all and decided to start bad mouthing, badgering, hateing Police and to add to it create the 1,711,000 web sites out there just so that they belittle the Law Enforcement officer weather they are County Police, State Troopers or the sheriffs office. So in closeing think about what you are talking about an what you are up against, because it seems to me the dislike for Law Enforcement outways the like for them. Oh buy the way have you ever had to deal with any kind of Law Enforcement your self or are you Defending them becaues you your self are infact in Law Enforcement.

The majority of citizens do not realize one very important fact -
Cops are basically the exact same charcter/personality type as criminals! There are several “Personality Profiles/Charcter Assessments” tests that are constantly being given to the Law Enforcement Community, and to the prisoners who are locked up…as well as some of the general population. The tests are given by qualified professional Psychologists and Psychiatrists. The findings are amazing…they are able to put the results side by side…cops next to criminals…and they are the SAME!! The only difference is which side of the law they choose to live on.
In other words, that is why there is so much contention…COPS HATE SEEING THEMSELVES IN THE CRIMINALS THEY BUST!! It pisses them off, which is easy to do, to realize:”It takes one, to know one!”
The cops are truly… “NOT GOOD PEOPLE”, like so many folks try to portray them as. They just have to act like they are, when people are looking…BUT, as soon as they are sure no one is watching…out comes the TRUE Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hide.
They are mean, sadistic, violent, rude, aggressive animals. Just looking for a chance to pound the shit out of some poor helpless schmuck!
In closing, I submit, never-never-never-never TALK TO THEM WITHOUT YOUR LAWYER!!! Get a public defender if you need one. Then you can tell them your side of the story. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT LOOKING GUILTY if you choose not to talk to them at first. You know why? Cops are fuckers. I have never had a good encounter with any of them. My mother and father are divorced, with the house to my mom. My fucking dad came back home and started to break things in the house. I called the cops to come to protect me and my brother/sisters. What the fuck did they do? They end up kicking me out of my own house, allowing that violent ass-father to stay. FUCK the POLICE! Serve and protect my ass. They did not protect me even if I was the caller. I hope cops all die. I do not break the law. I am a class A commercial truck driver with almost a million miles. I have had contact with many many police. Besides weigh stations and safety stops I have been pulled over for false and contrived reasons several times. I have never met a cop that appealed to me. Without exception, cops are self-important testosterone poisened wife-beating power mongers who, if they didn’t have a badge, would probably be in the state pen. And judges are right up there with them.

Cops are very pathetic. They don’t care about “To serve, and protect” the public. They all walk around with shirts two sizes too small. Buttons about to pop off. Sticking their chests out as far as they can like they’re fixing to get some. However that’s far from the truth. Most cops have a hard time getting laid. Which is good. They’re cock sucking bastard who need to suffer. Cops are far from mistreated. They have it very good. They’re never in any danger simply because they don’t go where it’s dangerous. They’re trigger happy, ignorant bastards who deserve to have justice dealt to themselves. I would love being a cop to be honest. I would spend all my time arresting lazy cops, and abusive cops. I’d slam their ass down and beat them around like they do everyone else. I might lose my job the first week, but I’d make damn sure I fucked up about 20 of those cops lives. If not more. I’d try damn hard too. One of these days the people will get tired of all this shit they dish out. The justice system will fall, and cops will die cause of it.

Im an 18 yr. old kid from canada and in the past 5 months i have been pulled over and falsely charged 6 times by the same dirty pig. It started when I was coming home one day going through the farmland backcountry and was going 160 in a 60 and blew through 2 stop signs.(stupid move I broke the law I dont blame the cop for that but..) When the policeman stopped me I just pulled into my driveway. he quickly jumped from his Suv and ripped my door open and attempted to haul me out by my shirt, however the dumb fuck must have forgotten about seatbelts. he realizes and yells at me to fuckin take it off now. i comply and he rips me out of my jeep turns me around puts his forearm on the back of my head and smashes my face off the side of my jeep. My father comes out and he releases me and leaves me with a ticket. He left visible bruising and swelling to the right side of my face and nose. we took pictures called a lawyer and took it to court and all charges on me were dropped and the officer was issued a warning. The next time he pulls me over he claims he saw me put my seatbelt on after he put on his lights. completely false, he gives me a fine but no points. next time he pulls me over he keeps me there for 45 minutes asking me questions and sitting in his car, then just lets me go. more bullshit like that and then most recently I decide to take my drunk friend to mcdonalds at 2:30 a.m because he wants to pay and i get stopped again, he see’s my friend drunk and decides i need a breathalizer so i say ok no problem. I take it and I blow a 0.022 the equivalent of 3 little chocolate bottle drinks. you know the like inch tall chocoaltes with a taste of an alchohol inside. but considering as i only have my g2 license and the rule is .000 blood alchohol is allowed he decided i needed to have my license suspended for 12 hours. so he then asks me if i can have someone come pick up the vehicle or if it needs to be towed and impounded. i said politely and respectfully “I can have someone come pick it up sir, I also have a free tow truck service card” he then left the car for a bit. He comes back and tells me hes having it towed by some guy in town. and he’ll drop me and my friend off. he then proceeds to take us to a tim hortens two towns over and leaves us there at 3:30 a.m to find our way home. I have had 5 other altercations with police officers 3 of which were complete bullshit and were dropped immediatly in court. My uncle has pictures and video tapes of him after the police used to beat the shit out og him and wreck his car when he was a kid. The police system cannot work in my opinion I feel no man has the right to give another man authority like that over people. Fuck those authority craving bitch ass pigs. I would not give a penny to save a cops life.

First of Guy I would say, damn Canada is screwed up. I’ve heard of that happening in the states only to the officer losing his job and not being able to work anywhere else.
To others, Ah yes, lets abolish all police. Then where would we stand. We will have tons of people on the streets that would just walk up to you and kill you, no questions asked nothing. I just find this funny and have to agree with some people. You dont like the police because they get you when you do something wrong yet when something is done wrong you ask where are they? For the most reason I can think as to why some cops are assholes is guess what, either they are having a bad day, OR you are being an asshole.
I have to agree with juvenile laws, they are a necessary evil, but think about it, it keeps all you kids out of jail. I would hate to think what a child rapist inmate awaiting his sentencing trial would do to some 14 year old kid who stole a pack of cigarettes, after curfew would do. It would be a miracle if anyone of you has even heard of the Parens Patriae doctrine, or miranda. You know what … if you want to see the limitations of law enforcement officers, take a look at the Bill of rights, all the cases involving police actions, any given general orders of a city department, sherriff’s department, state department, or federal agency.
I do not commend excessive use of force, that is just wrong. But think about it, you are the manager of a business (is a hard concept to comprehend but work with me here) and one of the people you hired will not listen to you nor do the job you hired him to do. What do you do? Most people would get pissed and fire him, some would get mad and talk out the problems, very few would say they would do nothing and let the person do whatever they felt like.
Just get a more educated look at things, try working in a police station, or for an attorney. There is so much red tape there its not even funny.
Officers are human, they will have bad days just like you have bad days. I’ve even heard this. “Respond to (act) at some road with a blue house, four miles south of city line.” Having an officer attempt to respond to something happeneing somewhere. Trying to find the correct place to go, the right people. and get the facts out.

I beat up cops for fun, what my mates and me will do is call them to a back alley or abandoned estate, then jump them and beat them up, 5 on 1 or so, (like they do with honest citizens), then jack all of their police equipment, and if we got time, write off their car, then we have a few people to say we was with them the whole time, so even if they can point us out, the numbers won’t add up, nor will the descriptions of us.
We’ve done something like 23 cops this year so far alone.
