What many do not understand when you have been victim of violent crimes, hurt, without work, & homeless you feel that most do not care. We are not being protected, our borders are not given the support, our law enforcement officers that are protecting us are not being supported, and many Americans are homeless with their children that cannot get work. Employers are not being held accountable and not hiring Americans. When we are victims of violent crimes by illegal aliens & gangs, we lose our work, cannot afford medical care, the offenders not held accountable, and we are retaliated against if we request help. Why are there so many illegals and why is our elected officials that are supposed to be serving American citizens not protecting & serving US? I wished those serving America would understand American citizens needs to have a way to live in their own Country, a way to support themselves, a way to receive medical care, educations, and work. Too many illegal aliens and gangs are running rampant all throughout America.

access to a driver’s license and the ability to obtain auto insurance provides the potential for increase in safety and decreased cost of insurance. If no unlicensed drivers obtain insurance, we are not in a worse position than we are currently. However if the bill was to pass and if many do obtain insurance California has a chance of benefiting, National safety is not more threatened by the issuing of a California driver’s license under the new standards than it was under the old. In fact two of the terrorist pilots in the attack of September 11th received official identifications from the Federal Government. They would have been able to get a California driver’s license even before SB60. The problem was that the supporting documents required for identification can be easily forged. Birthday certificates, foreign identification, and passports can be faked by organizations with the proper resources; even citizens of this Country just look at the incident rate of identity theft. Identification such as biometric data could be required, but colleting that sort of data expensively can lead to violations of personal liberty and privacy. If in fact, an earlier version of SB60 called for such data to be collected, and was stricken by due to objections on just such invasive concerns. Since any system can be bypass by fraud beyond its control ability to discover, no matter how strict a requirement it has, does it make sense to increase those requirements to the exclusion of legitimate person, when the increase will effect no change?

I came here legally from X country in South America seven (7) years ago, I came as a permanent residence. I apply to come legally and did everything accordingly, paper work, including criminal back ground check, education, health history, aids check, vaccination proof, a long etc... followed the rules, the law. The process took four years but I am glad I waited and came legally and after five years (this is the time you have to wait) as a permanent resident, I applied for my citizenship which I got. Now I am an American citizen, I did everything by the book. I love USA the same way I love the country in which I was born, but it is frustrating how schizophrenic is turning..illegal is illegal period.
We legals went step by step, but illegals skip all the process and then claim "rights"
By the way, don't say that immigrants don't continue education or drop out because of racism... see people from India, Korea, Nigeria, Kenya, China etc... they are educated and don't act like victims blaming others like Hispanics do of racism... to remain as the lowest educated people.

you guys are effin stupid. All the fucking hard workers are mexicans. Yeah its true that mexican immagrants have been here but if you get to see Mexico they come to U.S to make their lifes better by working hard. Most people that are from here dont try as hard as immagrants do because its so easy for them to get anywhere. Immagrants dont get as far as universities sometimes because of discrimination you guys have to come to a solution if africans and jews came to a solution so can mexicans illigal and legal. You guys are being selfish and naive because of how you respond to them being here.

With all the respect to all of you,
I would like to say that there are 'Hispanic' illegal immigrants that come into the country and affect our everyday lives. However, there are those illegal immigrants that were brought here at such young ages that are struggling because they do not know any other life but the one in the States. I know about a girl who was brought here at the age of six and still to this day she is struggling trying to make ends meet, but there are no ends for her. I mean, could you send her back to Mexico to a life she has never known? She has been living in the States all her life. She was not able to decide as a young child to stay in Mexico or to come to the United States. Yet, she has to withstand all of this locomotion. It is a very difficult life for these people believe it or not because some of them should be citizens here. She pays taxes, goes to college to better her future (what future?),she owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. And you know what makes all of this happen for her? MONEY! Money makes her world go round as much as all the people that work in the government. Politicians do not care what you think about your insurance premiums, your tax money or your priveleges. When we vote it is our 'popular vote' that counts. Ultimately, it is up to the Electoral College and you know who they are? People with the MONEY. People who vote people in to keep the money coming to them. The system is a distortion of true democracy. Please, be realistic that it is not these peoples fault that they are led to leave their families for a 'better life' because their own government is corrupt. Do you really think they want to put up with what they are exposed to? You best believe that a lot of them don't.

Just to add an empirical observation here -- I live in California. By the time the CA primary took place this year, the best candidate on illegal immigration issues (Fred Thompson) had long since dropped out. You cannot logically blame a voter in my position for failing to vote in support of a candidate who was no longer running when my vote took place.

Kapila, you're making a generalization about how you think people vote. This is not a valid argument. You know nothing about how I vote, or how the other commenters vote.
