Knew I would probably get it. Enlisted in May'67 so that I could get the training I wanted instead of being drafted and becoming a grunt. Two weeks into basic training at Ft. Polk La. , bingo, I receive my draft notice. I was RA (enlisted), all of the US (draftees) stayed at Polk to go to "TigerLand" jungle school, Vietnam... 2- "He attained the rank of Captain,"..... if you have a college degree in anything, you are awarded, given the rank of 1st Lt, then Capt. 'Attained' makes it sound like he actually did something of significance... 3- "was awarded the Bronze Star*. " But no one can say WHY he was awarded the Star...What did he do..? I remember it well during his re-call campaign... Why Gray..? For What Gray..? NO ANSWER. Think John Kerry..... It was at its peak in 1966. Davis' Bronze Star was for "meritorius" service, not connected with combat. It means he was a pretty good admin officer and thus knew when to apply for his medal given to officers who showed up to work.
