On the subject of France’s proposed global tax, I offer the words of farker macman37:

“Chirac can eat a dick straight up.”

I could go into a long tirade about what a stupid idea a global tax is, that it’s impossible to enforce, and gee I suppose France wants to be in charge of collection and pocketing distributing the money. But that would require more energy than I have right now, and I dislike having to Fisk things so self-evidently idiotic.

Personally, I prefer the good ole fashioned American common sense approach.

    Taxation without representation is tyranny

I guess that the U.N.’s hard up for money, now that the oil-for-food scam is over.

Sure, global whine, cheese, and surrender tax.

Oh, and the rent for the UN building comes to roughly your GDP for the year.

Interesting that Chirac would suggest taxing arms sales.

That indicates either that 1) he thinks he can sneak French arms sales out without paying the tax or 2) people are going to stop buying French weapons.

    I’d bet on #2.

(And no, I don’t for a second think he’d put a tax on one of France’s big prestige exports [arms], even to help the world’s poor, out of the goodness of his heart.

Like all French politicians, he’s concerned with France first. Not that that’s unreasonable, of course – every nation’s leaders should be concerned first with their nation’s welfare.)

Actually I wouldn’t be that surprised if Chirac just plans on sneaking his country’s stuff out like he did with Iraq. After all, if France is administrating the whole thing, they can hide the deals.
